How did it all start???

The idea of “On a spaceship travel to democracy and European citizenship” project was born during European Citizenship Training Course in Mollina (Málaga) in Spain in February 2009. This training course was carried out thanks to Youth Partnership of the Council of Europe and the European Commission to encourage the development of a critical understanding of the concept of European Citizenship and in doing so, to support the implementation and quality of the «Youth in Action» Programme.
Five participants interested in common future project started to analyze what democracy and active participation mean in our countries. In some countries like Norway and Spain there are more opportunities for youth participation, but young people sometimes do not make use of them. In such countries like Belarus and Serbia young people constantly meet with the lack of opportunities but they still find the way to express themselves even if the society they live in may not be free and democratic as it is in Belarus.

But in order to reflect on what democracy means for youth and what it means to be an active citizen in Europe it is important for young person to see how it goes in different countries, to compare and to explore what can help a young person to become more active in the life of his\her own community.
So the idea of the youth exchange was to bring young people from very different cultural and social backgrounds from 5 countries (Norway, Belarus, Serbia, Montenegro and Spain) together in order to reflect on the issue of democracy and possibilities for active participation in different societies and countries. By social background we mean that we want to include young people who are representatives of minority groups, who live in rural area or\and who have never been abroad.
So…we started thinking…thinking…thinking…we knew more or less the aim of the Exchange, the participant countries, we chose the dates and Tove-Laila offered to be a host to the rest of the groups.

Now…the application form. Thanks to hard work of Tove, Alex and Zoran and some help of the rest of the partners, the application form was submitted.
